Why Infrastructure as an Asset Class?
Internationally, infrastructure is one of the
fastest growing asset classes. Infrastructure investors typically are
looking for stable assets that generate consistent annual returns. As
infrastructure does not tend to track other asset classes, it is often
recommended as a defensive part of portfolio.
The New Zealand Superannuation Fund's investment
portfolio is allocated 13% toward "alternative assets". These include
New Zealand and international infrastructure, which can make up 2-5% of
the fund's portfolio.
